In the case of occupational stays in tropical or subtropical areas, the employer is obliged to arrange for occupational health screening.
If you are planning an occupational stay in tropical and subtropical regions (between 40°northern and 40°southern latitude), you need an occupational health screening. This must be carried out before the stay and offered again after the stay.
The preventive medical check-up serves your safety and is intended to prevent an illness during the performance of the occupation. This can be recognized as an occupational disease and result in compensation claims.
As part of the preventive care, you will receive occupational health advice on:
- climatic and hygienic situations at the destination,
- special health risks and rules of conduct,
- Malaria and vaccination prophylaxis.
If necessary, a physical examination follows. It ensures that a stay in the tropics will not endanger your health.
An occupational health screening must take place before you start work. Follow-up preventive care within 24 - 36 months. Your employer must also arrange for follow-up preventive care. Appointments are made with specialized physicians/clinics for this purpose. Contact your company physician or employer.
The cost of preventive care is borne by the employer. The cost of vaccinations is borne by the employer or the health insurance fund.
