§ Section 8 (1) in conjunction with. § Section 19c (4) AufenthG
If you are employed as a civil servant by a German employer and have a residence permit to fulfill official duties in Germany, you can apply for an extension of your residence permit.
If you are employed as a civil servant by a German employer and are in Germany to fulfill your official duties, you generally have a temporary residence permit. You can apply for an extension of your residence permit if the validity of your residence permit expires and you wish to continue your service in Germany.
You should apply for the extension of your residence permit at least eight weeks before the expiry date at the immigration authority responsible for your place of residence.
The same conditions apply for the extension as for the issue. This means that you must still be employed as a civil servant by a German employer and wish to stay in Germany to fulfill your official duties.
If your residence permit is extended, it will be limited in time again. The duration of the time limit depends on the planned duration of your employment.
The Federal Employment Agency does not need to be involved in the extension of your residence permit.
You may have been obliged to take part in an integration course when your residence permit was first issued. If this is the case, this must be taken into account when extending your residence permit. If you have not yet taken part in an integration course, the immigration authority may reject your application to extend your residence permit. If you have not yet completed the integration course, the residence permit will generally only be extended for one year at a time until you successfully complete it or provide proof that you have been integrated into society and social life in another way.
If you have been in possession of a residence permit to perform official duties with a German employer for three years, you are entitled to be issued with a permanent residence permit (settlement permit). This is subject to the condition have paid contributions to the statutory pension insurance scheme for at least 60 months or have to provide evidence of expenses for an entitlement to comparable benefits.
