As of 01.01.2020, parents with their habitual residence in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are exempt from paying parental contributions for child day care. This also includes parental contributions within child day care.
From the age of one, children who are habitually resident in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern until they start school (crèche, kindergarten or day care) are entitled to 30 hours of day care per week. This is part-time support. Parents are free to make use of a shorter care period of 20 hours per week. If parents require a higher level of care, e.g. due to their job, they can apply to the relevant youth welfare office for full-time support of 50 hours per week.
For children who have not yet reached the age of one, needs-based support in a daycare facility or with a childminder is also possible. Here too, parents must have their need confirmed by the responsible youth welfare office.
From the age of three, support in child day care is still possible if there is a special need or as a supplement, but support in child day care facilities has priority. The responsible youth welfare office decides on the approval of child day care.
Parents should find out about available childcare places as early as possible. To do this, you can contact the local public youth welfare organization or the desired childminder directly.
Every child in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is entitled to part-time support from the age of one. Funding for younger children is also possible after consultation with the local public youth welfare organization.
