"Prevention is better than cure" – this motto applies not only in medicine. It is also of great importance for personal security. Any crime that can be prevented is a security gain for the individual citizen and for society as a whole.
The police and other state and non-governmental bodies of public authorities therefore include the prevention of criminal offences among their core tasks. In accordance with Section 1 paragraph 2 of the Mecklenburg-Vorpommern Security and Order Act (SOG M-V), the interaction and "complementing" as a whole is indispensable. Tasks of crime and traffic prevention are carried out holistically. The services and information for the prevention of the police and other state and non-governmental bodies of public tasks are free of charge.
How can you protect yourself from crime?
A wide range of free information and recommendations for almost all areas of crime on how to protect yourself from crime can be found on the homepage of the "Police Crime Prevention of the States and the Federal Government" programme. There you can also request brochures and flyers directly online (link under "more information").
Do you have any questions about securing your apartment, house or business?
In the criminal police counselling centres in Anklam, Neubrandenburg, Rostock, Schwerin and Stralsund you have the opportunity to get information and advice on the security of your apartment, house or commercial enterprise. It also provides a lot of information materials on other topics (link under "further information").
Are you looking for a police contact person?
Organisations, associations and citizens are welcome to contact the prevention consultants in the police inspections in Anklam, Ludwigslust, Neubrandenburg, Rostock, Schwerin, Stralsund and Wismar. In order to promote the prevention of crime and to increase safety on the roads, various services are offered for different target groups (e.B. children and young people and senior citizens), which are often carried out in cooperation with other partners.
The same applies to the Landeskriminalamt (LKA). In Department 61 of the LKA, all police prevention activities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are coordinated. There, for example, an appearance of the police puppet stage or the sympathy figure of the state police, the police gull Klara, can be arranged for daycare and primary school pupils on various preventive topics.
Your information on right-wing or left-wing extremist acts, foreign extremism or Islamist terrorism is welcome at the hotline against extremism (telephone number: 03866/64-9222). Here you can also be given advice on your individual problem situation.
With "Net Reference" an online reporting office has also been set up in the Landeskriminalamt, which you can contact directly in case of suspicion of child pornography or extremist Internet content as well as computer crime. All the information received here will be examined and prosecuted in the confirmation of a suspected criminal offence.
In matters of boat crime and safety on the water, trained police officers can be contacted for you in the water protection police inspections in Rostock, Sassnitz, Schwerin, Stralsund, Waren, Wismar and Wolgast.
Do they want to get involved?
The prevention of criminal offences is, above all, also a task for society as a whole. Every citizen has the opportunity to participate. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern there are many associations and initiatives that have dedicated themselves to prevention work on the ground in a voluntary effort.
In the counties and district-free cities there are municipal prevention councils.
At the state level, the National Council for Crime Prevention (LfK) coordinates state and non-governmental activities. He draws up recommendations for prevention work on the ground and advises the state government. In addition, it supports crime-preventive projects, e.B. of municipal prevention councils, associations or institutions through financial contributions.
Do you need help because you have been the victim of a crime?
But even through these diverse activities, criminal offences cannot be completely prevented. Being a victim of a crime is an experience that can change the lives of those affected from one day to the next. It is therefore very important to provide a wide range of counselling and assistance to victims of crime. In Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, various competent specialist counselling centres offer their support to victims.
