Any person who intends to slaughter or kill domestic animals or ungulates kept as farmed game outside of an approved slaughterhouse for his or her own domestic consumption shall:
1. for official ante-mortem inspection if, immediately prior to the intended slaughter, the person authorized to dispose of the animal has noticed a disturbance in the general condition of the animal that is not due to an accident that occurred immediately beforehand,
2. to be registered for official post-mortem inspection; and
3. in the case of pigs, horses or other ungulates which may be carriers of trichinae, to be notified for official examination for trichinae.
The notification shall state the intended date of slaughter or killing.

European food law does not apply to private domestic use or to domestic processing, handling or storage of food for private domestic consumption. Nationally, it is mandatory to register for ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection. Domestic pigs and horses must additionally be examined for trichinae.
