If you are planning such a project for which the kerb needs to be lowered, you will need a permit for the sidewalk crossing. Existing footpath crossings can also be modified. You can apply to change a footpath crossing. Access roads to properties, whether they are constructed or modified, require a different structure or paving than the sidewalk and must be approved by the responsible authority. As a rule, work on public roads is commissioned by the city. In exceptional cases, you as the applicant may commission the work yourself from an approved specialist company.

• You yourself are the owner of the property.
• Alternatively, you have a power of attorney from the property owner.
• If you are allowed to carry out the construction yourself, the company commissioned must be an approved company.
• The height and visual continuity of the footpath is maintained.
• There will be no interruptions to the sidewalk as a result of the measure.

Description of the costs:

Note: The costs are divided into a fee and production costs. The fee and the production costs depend on the size and nature of the sidewalk crossing (possibly also for tree replacement planting or light pole relocation). Both cost components must be borne by the applicant.

You can apply in writing (by post, e-mail, fax) to change the sidewalk crossing. The sidewalk crossing is changed either by the responsible authority or by an approved company. The following procedure must be followed until the change is implemented:

• You apply for the change to the sidewalk crossing with all the necessary documents to the responsible body.
• As soon as the application has been submitted, a check will be carried out to determine whether there are any reasons why the alteration should not be carried out.
• For more extensive measures, you must organize and carry out an on-site appointment in advance together with the responsible authority.
• Once your application has been positively reviewed, you will receive a notice of approval and can have the footpath crossing altered (subject to possible conditions and requirements).
• You will be required to make an advance payment based on the production costs.
• Once the work has been completed, you will receive an invoice for payment of the remaining construction costs, less the advance payment made.

If the sidewalk crossing is changed by the responsible authority:

• You do not need to take any further steps for the work to continue.

If the footpath crossing is altered by an approved company:

• The contracted company must apply for a traffic authority order for the measure.
• After completion of the construction work, arrange a joint acceptance date with the responsible authority.

• The processing time distinguishes between processing the application and changing the sidewalk crossing.

  • Modification of the footpath crossing by the responsible body: at least 3 months.

There is no deadline.

• Only the change is applied for, the previous permission for a footpath crossing is still valid.
• The sidewalk crossing itself may not be altered, for example with wooden beams, steel ramps or similar. This is an unauthorized intervention in the road space and may be punishable by law.
• Permission to alter a footpath crossing does not replace other necessary official permits or entitlements arising from them, for example for the construction of a garage or a carport.
