Traffic signs (VZ) and traffic facilities (VE) serve to regulate traffic. They are ordered by traffic authorities and must be observed by road users on their own responsibility.

The traffic signs include

• Traffic signs
• road markings
• light-technical displays (e.g. light signal systems - traffic lights).

Traffic facilities are red and white striped

• barriers, bollards, roadblocks and traffic guidance systems

also

• barrier railings, parking meters, parking ticket machines, flashing light and light signal systems ( traffic lights ) as well as traffic control systems.

All traffic signs are listed in the traffic sign catalog (VZKat).

Police officer instructions, traffic signs and traffic control devices can be divided into the following groups according to the Road Traffic Regulations (StVO):

The costs of procurement, installation, removal and maintenance as well as the operation of the official traffic signs and traffic facilities are generally borne by the road construction authority for the road along which they are installed.

For freeways and branching roads, this is the State Office for Road Construction and Traffic, for federal and state roads it is the road construction offices in Neustrelitz, Schwerin and Stralsund. The districts, municipalities and cities are responsible for the construction of the district and municipal roads on their territory.

The road traffic authorities are responsible for ordering traffic signs and traffic facilities. The conditions under which traffic signs and traffic facilities can be ordered are comprehensively regulated in § 45 StVO.
