For the renewal of ratings from the pilot license (license), depending on the license, proof of a certain number of flight hours, takeoffs and landings, as well as practice flights with flight instructor or proficiency checks by recognized examiners must be provided, as well as proof of physical and mental fitness as determined by an aeromedical expert by presenting a certificate of fitness.

Costs are incurred in accordance with the valid cost regulation of the aviation administration (LuftKostV).

Usually 14 days upon submission of all necessary documents.

The renewal of permits and authorizations must be applied for before their validity expires. A permit or authorization whose validity has expired can be renewed only under difficult conditions.

A credential may also be renewed by a recognized examiner.

Aviation licenses are issued with an unlimited validity. A distinction must be made between these and the ratings entered in the airman's license, which are subject to a time limit and, depending on the rating, can be extended if the respective requirements are met.

The theoretical and practical knowledge as well as language skills must be maintained.
