When collecting the ID card, the citizen declares in writing to the ID card authority whether the use of electronic proof of identity is desired. The identity card authority then activates the electronic proof of identity function.
This decision can be changed at any time during the period of validity of the ID card by submitting a written declaration to the ID card authority.
- the current (child's) identity card or valid (child's) passport or birth certificate,
- for children under the age of 16, a declaration of consent from their legal guardians,
- if there is only one parent or legal guardian, proof of custody,
- a biometric passport photo (according to the photo sample table)
- German within the meaning of Article 116 (1) of the Basic Law (GG)
- registered in the municipality with main residence
- when collecting the ID card: free of charge
- for persons who received their ID card before the age of 16: free of charge
