For inland waters, the fishing permit is usually issued by the owner or leaseholder of the water. Information on this can be obtained from fishing companies, angling associations/clubs and, in some cases, local authorities or fishing service stores. For some time now, the larger fishing licensees in M-V have also been offering the option of obtaining a fishing permit via an online store.
A fishing permit is also required for the coastal waters of the state of M-V. The coastal waters include the so-called inner coastal waters (Wismar Bay, Salzhaff, Darßer Bodden chain, Strelasund, Kubitzer Bodden, Gr. and Kl. Jasmunder Bodden, Greifswalder Bodden, Peenestrom, Achterwasser, Stettiner Haff) and the Baltic Sea, as far as the German territorial jurisdiction (12 nautical mile zone) extends. The state of M-V is entitled to fish in these waters unless third parties hold fishing rights.

Fishing permits for coastal waters can be purchased in person from the upper fishing authority (LALLF) as well as from many fishing service stores, tourist and spa administrations in the coastal region and beyond (possession of a valid fishing license is required). - When applying directly to the LALLF (by post, fax or e-mail), please provide your surname, first name and return address as well as your date of birth.
- The fishing permit for coastal waters can also be purchased online. The fishing permit is sent to the e-mail address as a PDF document and can then be carried on a smartphone or printed out.

Severely disabled persons:
- Persons within the meaning of Section 7 (7) LFischG (holders of a severely disabled person's pass) who wish to purchase a discounted annual fishing permit can do so at any issuing office. Anyone who does not have an issuing office near their place of residence can also send an informal application with the return address, date of birth and a copy of the severely disabled person's ID card to the upper fishing authority by post or e-mail.

There are no free fishing waters in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Fishing without a fishing permit is fish poaching, which can be prosecuted as a criminal offense under § 293 of the Criminal Code.

Coastal waters:
The state of M-V is authorized to fish in the coastal waters of the state of M-V, unless third parties hold fishing rights. Fishing permits for these coastal waters can be purchased in person from the upper fishing authority (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern State Office for Agriculture, Food Safety and Fisheries - LALLF) as well as from many fishing service stores, tourist and spa administrations in the coastal region and beyond. The fishing permit issued by the upper fishing authority does not apply to fishing rights held by third parties. Here you need a different fishing permit.
