Before vaccines are approved, their effectiveness and safety must be proven in studies.
After that, the independent Standing Commission on Vaccination (STIKO) reviews who should be recommended for vaccination in Germany and when it is most appropriate to administer it. Individual advice from your doctor or the responsible office is based on these recommendations.
The costs for recommended vaccinations are covered by the health insurance.
Note: Some insurance companies also cover the costs of travel vaccinations. The Center for Travel Medicine offers further information on this.
Contact your family doctor or the public health department. Here you will be advised and vaccinated.
Tip: On the website of the Robert Koch Institute, you will find the recommendations of the Permanent Vaccination Commission with the vaccinations that infants, toddlers, adolescents and adults should receive. You will also find a table of indication and booster vaccinations. The recommendations are explained by rationales and messages.
