Kraftfahrzeugkennzeichen: Saisonkennzeichen für Fahrzeuge beantragen

For owners of a motorcycle, motorhome or convertible who do not regularly use their vehicle all year round, it is possible to register it with a seasonal license plate. The season is the period during which the vehicle is registered and insured each year. The advantage of a seasonal license plate is that the vehicle is automatically registered for this period. The vehicle owner does not have to visit the registration office twice a year (to register and deregister the vehicle), as was previously the case, thus saving time and money. The validity of the seasonal license plate is limited to a specific period: The operating period is measured in full months and it must be at least two months and may not exceed eleven months. It must be noted by the registration authority in the registration certificate part I in brackets behind the license plate. The period of validity of the seasonal license plate is stamped on the right-hand side of the license plate. The number above a line indicates the start of registration of each year (from the first day of the month) and the number below the line indicates the end of registration (up to the last day of the month). For example, the number 04 and 10 below it means that the vehicle is registered from April 1st to October 31st of a year. The seasonal license plate can be obtained from the relevant registration office.

• Application for registration of a motor vehicle for an operating period limited to full months,
• for natural persons: surname, maiden name, first names, religious or artistic name given by the owner, date and place of birth, gender and address of the owner (valid identity card or passport with registration certificate),
• for legal entities and authorities: the name or designation and address,
• for associations: named representative with the details as for natural persons and the name of the association of the registration authority of the place of residence,
• in the case of representation with written power of attorney additionally:
  • Identity card or passport with current registration confirmation of the authorized representative

• to apply for tax relief additionally:
  • Application to be signed in person by the severely disabled person; in the case of representation, a power of attorney must be submitted,
  • valid severely disabled person's pass issued by the competent pension authority (if necessary as a certified copy) and
  • Supplement to the severely disabled person's pass
• Proof of authorization to dispose of the vehicle
• for companies:
  • natural persons: Business registration,
  • legal entities: Business registration and extract from the commercial register, personal appearance of the management or with a power of attorney signed by it,
  • Partnership under civil law (GbR): Partnership agreement and power of attorney of the persons authorized to sign according to the agreement together with the declaration of the natural person in whose name the registration is to be made, which must be confirmed by the signatures of all partners
• Electronic confirmation of insurance,
• SEPA direct debit mandate for vehicle tax (can also be completed directly at the registration authority),
• Confirmation of reservation for the desired license plate, if applicable,
• valid test report from the last general inspection,
• Test certificate from the last emissions test (not required for a general inspection carried out after 01.07.2012 or for vehicles that are not subject to mandatory emissions testing),
• and, if it corresponds to EC vehicle classes M2, M3, N, O or G (except M1 vehicles), presentation of a valid certificate of a safety inspection,
• if the vehicle was previously registered, additionally:
  • Registration certificate Part I (vehicle registration document),
  • Registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document),
  • if applicable, the previously assigned license plates.

• Proof of authorization to dispose of the vehicle (e.g. purchase contract),
• valid operating license
• Valid certificate of a general inspection and, if applicable, safety inspection
• electronic insurance confirmation,
• There must be no outstanding fees and expenses from previous registration processes.
• There must not be any owner-related vehicle tax arrears of five euros or more.

The fees are set by the respective licensing authority in accordance with the German Road Traffic Fee Regulations (GebOSt). The amount of the fees depends on the administrative costs. Please contact the responsible authority. The costs for the license plates or other expenses are not included in the fees.

As the owner, you must apply for the registration of your vehicle at the responsible registration authority. You can also appoint a representative with a written power of attorney. It is important that the power of attorney also contains your consent to the disclosure of vehicle tax-relevant data to the authorized representative.

In order to complete the procedure quickly, it is particularly important to submit all the necessary documents to the authority as completely as possible. You may also have to present the vehicle to the registration authority for an identity check. This is particularly necessary in cases where the registration certificate part II (vehicle registration document) cannot be presented.

If you would like a special license plate, the reservation can be made in person, in writing, by telephone or online before the new registration, depending on what the registration authority offers.

If nothing stands in the way of registration, the license plates are stamped, i.e. provided with stickers for the main inspection and the registration district.

There are no deadlines to be observed.

Full insurance cover only applies during the period specified on the seasonal license plate. Anyone who continues to drive outside this period risks a fine and points in the central traffic register (from 1.5.2014 driving aptitude register). There may also be a prison sentence. If a registration number has been allocated to the vehicle, only journeys that have to be recorded in advance by the motor vehicle liability insurance and that are related to the registration procedure may be made outside the operating period, in particular journeys to affix the stamp sticker and journeys to carry out a general inspection or a safety inspection within the registration district and a neighboring district. The vehicle may not be parked on public roads or parking lots during the registration-free period. In the event of non-compliance, the vehicle may be towed away and the owner may face fines and points.

The licensing authorities in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are the district councils, mayors and mayors of the independent towns and large towns belonging to the district. The authority with local jurisdiction is the authority of the place of residence, in the case of several residences the place of the main residence or, in the absence of such, the place of residence of the applicant or person concerned. Jurisdiction is based on the place of residence of the vehicle owner (main residence according to the identity card).

In the case of legal entities, tradespeople and self-employed persons with a fixed place of business or public authorities, the registration authority of the registered office or the location of the branch or office involved is responsible.
