The term of office of the Landtag is five years. In the landtag elections, Germans are entitled to vote and electable if they meet the legal requirements for doing so.
In the municipality where you are registered with a single or main residence, you will be automatically entered in the electoral register.
All eligible citizens who are registered with the registration authority on the 37th day before the election will be entered on the electoral roll of their own motion and will receive an election notification no later than three weeks before the election day.
You can view the electoral register from the 20th to 16th day before the election on weekdays during the general opening hours of your municipality. Persons who are not entered in the electoral register and consider to be entitled to vote may apply for registration in the electoral register until the 23rd day before the election or apply to the municipality for a polling card with postal ballot documents no later than the second day before the election (Friday), 12 noon. In special cases of exceptional cases, especially in the case of proven sudden illness, you can apply for the ballot paper until 3 p.m. on election day.
You will need a polling card if you want to vote in a polling room other than the one assigned, or if you want to cast your ballotby.
If you have misplaced or lost your election notification, you can still vote in the polling room. But don't forget to bring your ID card or passport.
They have two votes in the Landtag election, one first vote for the constituency candidate and a second vote for the Land list.
The municipality communicates with the election notification and by public announcement which voting rooms are accessible for disabled people (barrier-free). If in doubt, inquire early.
If you are unable to cast your vote on your own or cannot read due to a physical impairment, you have the option of being helped by a person of your trust in the election (in the polling room or in the postal ballot). In the polling room, you can also ask a member of the electoral board for help. Blind or visually impaired voters can use a ballot paper template.
Voting can be held in the polling rooms from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on election day.
