As a skilled worker with vocational training, you can you can obtain a residence permit to look for a job for a period of six months if you meet certain requirements.
You can obtain a residence permit to look for a job for skilled workers if you have completed qualified vocational training in Germany. Qualified vocational training exists if you have completed vocational training in a state-recognized or comparably regulated training occupation. The training must have lasted at least two years. If you have completed your vocational training abroad, the equivalence of your qualification with the German qualified vocational training must be determined by the competent recognition body (e.g. the Chamber of Industry or Commerce).
If you wish to work in a regulated profession, the necessary professional license must already have been granted or approved when the residence permit for seeking employment is issued. Regulated professions are professional activities that are subject to the possession of certain professional qualifications by law or administrative regulations. In Germany, regulated professions are, for example, doctors, nurses, lawyers, teachers, educators or engineers.
If you are already resident in Germany, you can obtain a residence permit to look for a job if you were previously in possession of a residence permit for gainful employment or a residence permit for the purpose of an EU study-related internship.
With a residence permit for job-seeking purposes, you can take up a trial job for up to ten hours per week if you are qualified to do so.
The residence permit is issued for up to six months.

- an equivalent foreign professional qualification
- The purpose of your job search is employment as a skilled worker.
- You have German language skills appropriate to the job you are seeking. As a rule, German language skills of at least level B1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages are required.
- If required, you have a license to practice your profession or a confirmation that it has been issued.
- You can cover your living expenses and health insurance from your own resources without claiming public benefits.

Under certain conditions, a fee reduction or fee exemption may be possible.

The procedure is as follows:
- Depending on the foreigners authority and your request, it may be possible to apply via the Internet. Find out whether your foreigners authority offers electronic application for a residence permit.
- If you can only apply in person, make an appointment with the immigration office. During the appointment, your application will be accepted and your supporting documents checked (bring these with you to the appointment). Your fingerprints will be taken for the production of an electronic residence permit (eAT card).
- In the case of an electronic application, the Immigration Office will contact you after receiving your online application to arrange an appointment at the Immigration Office if necessary.
