The EU permanent residence permit allows foreign nationals to move more freely within the European Union (EU). It is equivalent to the settlement permit in many respects and is an unlimited residence title.
- Proof of fulfillment of passport and visa requirements
- Proof that you have been living in Germany with a residence title for at least five years without interruption
- Proof of secure livelihood
- Proof of health insurance coverage
- Proof of paid pension insurance contributions or payments to a comparable pension institution
- Proof of sufficient German language skills and basic knowledge of the German legal and social system
- Proof of sufficient living space for yourself and your family
- Proof that there are no grounds for deportation or other reasons of public security or order that would prevent the issuance of the EU permanent residence permit.
Please inquire at the responsible foreigners authority which documents are required in addition.
- Your identity has been clarified and you fulfill the passport and visa requirements.
- You have been living in Germany for at least five years without interruption with a residence title.
- Your livelihood, as well as that of your dependents whom you have to support, is secured by fixed and regular income.
- You are insured in the statutory health insurance or have an unlimited or automatically renewing health insurance coverage.
- You have paid contributions to the statutory pension insurance or to another pension scheme with comparable benefits.
- You have sufficient knowledge of German and basic knowledge of the German legal and social system.
- You have sufficient living space for yourself and your family.
- There are no grounds for expulsion or other reasons of public security or order that prevent the granting of the EU permanent residence permit.
You have to apply for the permit for permanent residence-EU at the competent aliens' registration office.
To the foreigners authority in whose district you usually reside (depending on your place of residence, the district administrator or the mayor).
