If your driving license has been legally revoked and you wish to drive a motor vehicle on public roads again, you must apply for a new driving license.
The same documents as for a first issue, namely:
1. for all classes:
- Identity card or passport,
- Certificate of registration, if applicable,
- Current photograph: frontal photograph in accordance with international standards (biometric photograph).
2. for categories AM, A1, A2, A, B, BE, L and T in addition to 1:
- Proof of participation in an instruction course in life-saving emergency measures,
- eye test certificate.
3. for categories C1, C1E, C, CE, D1, D1E, D and DE in addition to 1:
- Proof of participation in instruction in life-saving emergency measures,
- Certificate or report on eyesight,
- Certificate or expert opinion on physical and mental aptitude.
4. for categories D1, D1E, D and DE in addition to 1. and 3.: expert opinion on special requirements.
In many cases, a medical-psychological report from an officially recognized assessment body for driving aptitude is also required to assess whether the aptitude to drive motor vehicles is restored. Please contact the relevant driving license authority in this regard.
A driver's license can only be reissued after a revocation and after the expiry of the blocking period, if applicable, upon application. As the relevant investigations take a certain amount of time, the application for a new driving license should be submitted three months before the end of the suspension period.
The fees are set by the relevant authority in accordance with the German Road Traffic Fee Regulations (GebOSt).
The reissue application should be submitted to the driving license authority three months before the end of the suspension period (but not earlier).
