If you operate a technical X-ray device that does not require a licence or wish to make significant changes to it, you must notify the competent authority for radiation protection.
Technical X-ray equipment that does not require a licence may include X-ray equipment that is to be used as a basic, high or full protection device. You must notify the competent authority in writing of the planned commissioning or significant modification. Significant changes to an X-ray device can be, for example, a change of room, a structural change to the room or a change to the image receiver.
- Test report of the expert

- Copy of approval certificate according to § 47 StrlSchG for the type of X-ray equipment
- Manufacturer's routine test with test date (new devices)
- Plans, drawings of the structural and technical radiation protection equipment (e.g. floor plan of the X-ray room, site plan)
- Description of how the necessary knowledge and skills with regard to the possible radiation hazard and the protective measures to be applied are imparted to the persons otherwise working.
- Extract from the commercial or partnership register
- Copy of the notification of the person responsible for radiation protection
- Copy of the letter of delegation of tasks and duties to the radiation protection officer by the authorised representative
- Copy of the letter of appointment of the radiation protection officer
- Copy of the certificates of competence of the appointed radiation protection officers (or the radiation protection officer if no radiation protection officers have been appointed) including proof of the last update
- This is a technical X-ray device that does not require authorisation and that you wish to operate or significantly change the operation of.
- The documents required for this are enclosed with the notification.
After the four weeks have elapsed, you may operate the X-ray equipment unless the competent authority has suspended the procedure in accordance with Section 20 (2) StrlSchG or prohibited operation in accordance with Section 20 (3), (4) or (5) StrlSchG.
At least 4 weeks before the planned commissioning or significant change in the operation of the X-ray equipment
