Sozialgesetzbuch Achtes Buch (SGB VIII)
- § 30 Erziehungsbeistand, Betreuungshelfer
An educational assistant and the care assistant can help children and young people in everyday life, in dealing with you as parents and with social problems. Possible helps are:
- Talking about problems, fears and behaviour
- Help in coming to terms with stressful experiences
- Support in solving problems with family, friends, teachers or other people
- Support with visits to the authorities
- for older young people: Support in finding a job or a place to live, help in breaking away from parents
- Help in becoming independent
Note: In contrast to "socio-educational family support", an educational support worker focuses his or her help largely on the child or young person concerned. If possible, he involves the social environment.
The costs for the help are borne by the youth welfare office.
Exception: In the case of delinquent juveniles for whom the court prescribes an educational assistance, it may not bear the costs.
Contact the responsible youth welfare office and describe the problems with your child or young person. The Youth Welfare Office will assess the case and decide whether an educational assistant is suitable for your child. They will help you with the application and advise you about other help options.
If the help is approved, all those involved draw up a help plan together. This plan specifies the course of action, the goals and the duration of the help.
The Youth Welfare Office reviews the progress of the help in regular meetings and whether changes would be useful.
Note: Normally, you will only receive an educational assistant at your own request. In the case of juveniles who have committed a crime, the court may as part of the sentence.
