According to the German Chemicals Act (ChemG), non-clinical health and environmental safety tests of substances or preparations, the results of which are intended to enable an assessment of their potential hazards to humans and the environment in an authorization, approval, registration, notification or notification procedure, must always be carried out in compliance with the principles of good laboratory practice.
The principles of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) specify precisely defined standards for organization, personnel, premises, test and reference substances, work instructions, result reports and archiving. The aim of GLP is to achieve international recognition of test results - and thus also to limit the number of animal experiments.
In order to obtain GLP certification, test facilities and sites must prove that they meet the requirements of GLP. The certificate of compliance with the GLP principles must be issued by the competent authority upon application if the test facility, including the test procedures carried out, actually complies with the GLP principles.
