The promotion of equality between women and men is a task of the federal state, the municipalities and municipal associations as well as other public administration bodies.

Both the Basic Law and the Schleswig-Holstein state constitution stipulate the promotion of legal and actual equality between women and men as a task of the state, the municipalities and municipal associations as well as other public administration bodies.

All Equal Opportunities and Women's Representatives (GB/FB) who are active in Schleswig-Holstein on the basis of the Equal Opportunities Act, municipal constitutional law and the Higher Education Act are supported by the state offices.

Municipal Equal Opportunities Officers stand up for the rights and interests of the residents of the respective municipality. They ensure that the administration and political bodies take the interests of women and girls into account in their decisions. They are available for confidential consultations with women seeking advice and interested women on topics such as separation and divorce, childcare, pregnancy, bullying, violence, problems with authorities or applications for social benefits. They also support regional initiatives, projects and plans to improve the situation of women and girls.
