Anyone wishing to buy or sell certain (prohibited) paints and varnishes for restoration/maintenance purposes requires a permit.

According to the Solvent-Based Paints and Varnishes Ordinance, certain paints and varnishes may not be placed on the market. This concerns paints and varnishes for coating buildings and products for vehicle refinishing with a content of volatile organic compounds above the specified limit.

However, with regard to the restoration and maintenance of buildings and vintage vehicles, the purchase and sale of the substances and preparations in question may be permitted by the competent authority.

An administrative fee of between EUR 100.00 and EUR 500.00 is payable for the granting of a permit or exemption in accordance with the state ordinance on administrative fees. Detailed information can be obtained from the responsible office.
