Anyone wishing to slaughter animals whose meat is intended for human consumption must have the animals officially inspected.
If you slaughter animals whose meat is intended for human consumption, you must have the animals officially inspected before and after slaughter. This applies to
- Cattle,
- pigs,
- sheep,
- goats,
- horses and other hoofed animals,
- poultry,
- lagomorphs,
- farmed game.
The inspection requirement also applies to domestic slaughter.
Fees are charged in accordance with the fee schedule of the responsible office. Detailed information can be obtained from the responsible office.
The competent authority must be notified of slaughtering in good time (at least 24 hours in advance).
Emergency slaughtering must be considered separately; in any case, the competent authority must be informed immediately.
Commercial slaughtering may (since October 1, 2010) only be carried out in officially approved establishments(food businesses).
