An extract from the commercial register shows the current legal status of a company. In particular, the extract indicates who can legally represent the company. Various authorities and institutions (trade office, banks, etc.) therefore require an extract from the register. In addition, any interested party can inspect the commercial register or obtain an extract. A distinction must be made between an excerpt and a certified excerpt.

You also have the option of simply inspecting the commercial register.

• Electronic transmission instead of a printout:
  • Uncertified file: EUR 5.00 (No. 17002 List of Costs GNotKG),
  • certified file: EUR 10.00 (No. 17003 List of Costs GNotKG).
    
• Use of the register portal:
  • Registration free of charge
  • Search for individual companies, access to company data and use of the commercial register notices free of charge.
    
• Retrieval of the data offered for a register number (No. 1140, 1141 of the Schedule of Costs of the Judicial Administration Costs Act):
  • Current printout EUR 4.50,
  • Chronological printout EUR 4.50,
  • Historical impression 4.50 EUR,
  • Document 1.50 EUR.

For some purposes (e.g. submission to foreign authorities), an apostille by the president of the district court or regional court or an over-certification by the Federal Office of Administration and legalization may be required in addition to the printout.

The federal states have set up a register portal for the purpose of public information, through which you can retrieve the required information online. Certificates and documents about the company in question that are relevant for the entries in the commercial register can also be retrieved there.
