Anyone wishing to work as an auctioneer must be publicly appointed and sworn in by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce.

The procedure begins with an application and detailed preliminary discussions. After the documents to be submitted have been checked, the so-called special expertise is usually reviewed by a panel of experts. A preliminary review of the list of auctions, publications and other proofs of qualification is carried out and an assessment of submitted objects as well as a written and oral review are performed. The review process ends with a vote by the expert panel and the expert committee of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK).

The auctioneer to be appointed is sworn in by the President/President of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce in a formal ceremony, while the auctioneer to be appointed signs the declaration of commitment, the declaration of oath and the consent to the use of data. The auctioneer then receives his certificate of appointment, the auctioneer's ID card and the auctioneer's stamp.

The appointment is published.
Publicly appointed auctioneers are included in internet directories with their consent.
In addition, the appointing authorities publish lists and directories for their district or region in order to inform courts and authorities, businesses and the public

The direct costs for an application procedure are 720.00 euros.
In addition, there are costs of approx. 1,200.00 euros for a check of the special expertise.

The process takes around nine months.
Extensive preparation by attending specialist seminars and several years of experience as an auctioneer is advisable.
