The measures to promote integrated rural development as part of the Future Rural Development Program (ZPLR) support the rural areas of Schleswig-Holstein for more community, more quality of life and more economic power.
The promotion of integrated rural development serves to maintain and improve the quality of life in rural areas.
The "European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development" (EAFRD) is the basis for the "Future Program for Rural Areas" (ZPLR) in Schleswig-Holstein. The Future Rural Development Programme is a central funding instrument for rural regions within the framework of the EU funding period 2007-2013. In Schleswig-Holstein, the so-called Leader Method, which was successfully tested as an innovative bottom-up approach in the previous funding period as part of the Community Initiative LEADER+, is being implemented across the board for the funding area of integrated rural development on the basis of the EAFRD.
Integrated rural development measures - with the exception of projects for the diversification of agricultural operations and the conversion of agricultural buildings - are primarily implemented via the Local Action Groups (LAGs) under Leader, which are called "Active Regions" in Schleswig-Holstein.
The new EAFRD funding period 2014-2020 is in preparation. In the transitional period from 2014 until the new Rural Development Programme (RDP) comes into force, the available GAK and state funds can also be used outside of Leader for projects of particular state policy importance to strengthen rural areas (in particular to safeguard services of general interest).
Further information on the Schleswig-Holstein ActiveRegion can be found on the state portal "Agriculture and Environment Schleswig-Holstein".
