Act on the Public Health Service (Health Service Act - GDG).
Tuberculosis counseling provides support, for example, in the implementation of anti-tuberculosis therapy or in the identification and examination of contact persons.
Tuberculosis is a contagious disease. It is an infectious disease that often begins with uncharacteristic symptoms (e.g. cough, tiredness, slight fever) and mainly affects the lungs, but can also affect other organs.
In order to prevent it from spreading in the body and to prevent other people from becoming infected, it is important to recognize it early and start treatment with medication.
Treatment must be prolonged and consistent, as otherwise the disease may break out again, antibiotics may become ineffective (so-called resistance development) and infection may lead to further cases of the disease.
The tasks of tuberculosis counseling are
- Identification and examination of contact persons with tuberculosis patients,
- Accompanying and monitoring outpatient anti-tuberculosis therapy,
- if necessary, carrying out therapy and ensuring that it is carried out, and
- carrying out further follow-up checks after the end of treatment.
