Workshops require a workshop card to install and calibrate digital recording equipment. These must be applied for from the district/city.

Since May 1, 2006, vehicles must be equipped with a digital recording device (driver card) instead of a tachograph.
Workshops require a workshop card to install and calibrate the digital recording equipment.

The workshop card must contain the following information:

• Name of the workshop,
• Address of the workshop,
• Name/first name of the holder,
• period of validity.

Driver, workshop and company cards are issued on application.

• Proof of business registration,
• Current recognition or commissioning of the workshop in accordance with § 57 b of the Road Traffic Licensing Regulations (StvZO),
• Identity card or passport with confirmation of registration of the applicant or the authorized representative (power of attorney if applicable),
• Identity card or passport with confirmation of registration of the responsible specialist,
• Proof of training of the responsible specialist and
• Proof of the existing employment relationship with the responsible specialist.

Workshop cards are valid for 1 year.
