Anyone who has reached the age of 14 can declare their withdrawal from a church, religious community or ideological community. For a person who has not yet reached the age of 14, the legal representative who has custody of the person (parents or, if applicable, one parent) can declare their withdrawal from the church. Children who have reached the age of 12 cannot declare their withdrawal against their will.

The declaration of withdrawal must be made in person at the registry office.

The fee for leaving the church is 20.00 euros in accordance with the state ordinance on administrative fees.

Leaving the church takes effect on the day of the declaration.

When the resignation is notarized, the responsible tax office will change the information for the church tax deduction as an income tax characteristic (electronic income tax card) upon request.

You must declare your resignation from the church/religious community to your local registry office.
