Every dog owner is obliged to register their dog.
The obligation to register is regulated in detail in the respective municipal statutes. This regularly stipulates a registration obligation within 14 days,
- if the dog is older than three months,
- when acquiring a new dog or moving in with a dog,
- if a dog is being cared for or kept for a period of time specified in the local dog tax statutes (usually one month).
After registering the dog, dog tax stamps may be issued, which must be returned when the dog is deregistered.
