In contrast to public schools, private schools have an independent sponsor - and are therefore also called "independent schools".
The Basic Law (GG) expressly guarantees the right to establish private schools in Art. 7 Para. 4, 5 GG. Independent schools are subject to state school supervision (legal supervision).
A distinction must be made between alternative and supplementary schools:
- Ersatzschulen are schools requiring approval which - according to the overall purpose pursued with their establishment - aim to achieve the general educational objectives and qualifications.
- Supplementary schools are schools that do not require approval but must be registered.
You can download a checklist for the approval of the establishment and operation of a substitute school or a supplementary school from the state portal "Bildung Schleswig-Holstein".
- Fees of between 200.00 and 1,200.00 euros are charged for the approval of an alternative school. Detailed information on this can be obtained from the responsible office.
- The notification of a supplementary school is not subject to a fee.
There is no statutory deadline for the application for approval of the establishment and operation of a substitute school. Detailed information on this can be obtained from the responsible authority.
The approval procedure takes about six months.
Healthcare schools are not the responsibility of the Ministry of General and Vocational Education, Science, Research and Culture, but of the Ministry of Justice and Health (MJG).
