Youth work is part of youth welfare. It supports young people in recognizing, respecting and experiencing values and strengthens independent action.

Youth work is an independent part of youth welfare.

Youth work (open and associational youth work) promotes the development of young people's personalities and prepares them for life in the community. It helps them to recognize, respect and experience values and strengthens their ability to act on their own responsibility. Youth work ties in with the interests of young people and is co-determined by them. In concrete terms, this is reflected in the fact that youth work is characterized to a particularly high degree by the voluntary commitment of young people.

The state of Schleswig-Holstein supports educational events and projects of youth welfare organizations, youth associations, investments in youth work locations, international youth work, the Ferienwerk Schleswig-Holstein and voluntary work (time off and loss of earnings) on the basis of laws, regulations and guidelines.

Membership fees may be charged by the independent sponsors.
