Anyone aged 15 or over who wants to ride a moped on public roads needs a "moped test certificate".
If you are 15 years or older, you are allowed to ride a moped on public roads if you have a so-called "moped test certificate". You will receive this if you have successfully completed theoretical and practical moped training and passed the required theoretical test.
Theoretical and practical moped training is an essential part of school-based road safety education in Schleswig-Holstein. It is offered and carried out either directly by general education schools or by driving schools.
Procedure:
- After completing moped training at a school or driving school, you will receive a training certificate.
- The theoretical moped test is taken at the Technical Test Center for Motor Vehicle Traffic (TP). The training certificate must be presented there.
- Once you have passed the theoretical moped test, the TP will issue you with the moped test certificate.
Exception:
You do not need a moped test certificate if you hold a valid German driver's license in any category or a valid foreign driver's license that entitles you to drive motor vehicles in Germany.
Anyone who reached the age of 15 before April 1, 1980 does not need a driving license or a moped test certificate to drive a moped on public roads.
The training certificate from the driving school must be presented at the test date at the technical test center.
You must always carry the moped test certificate (or your driving license) with you when riding a moped on public roads.
If you lose your moped test certificate, you must contact the technical inspection authority that issued the test certificate to obtain a replacement test certificate.
To a driving school.
The Technical Testing Center for Motor Vehicle Traffic - TP - (TÜV NORD Mobilität GmbH & Co. KG) is responsible for the theoretical moped test.
