The senior citizens' representatives in the municipalities, towns and districts are committed to the interests of older people locally.

Many municipalities, towns and districts in Schleswig-Holstein have established municipal senior citizens' councils by statute or resolution.

The Landesseniorenrat Schleswig-Holstein e. V. (LSR S-H e. V.) is the association of municipalities, towns and districts in Schleswig-Holstein that have set up a senior citizens' advisory council/senior citizens' council by statute or resolution of the representative body, as well as members of the state working group of independent welfare associations.

The State Seniors' Council represents the interests of the older generation vis-à-vis parliament and government as well as the public. It is independent, politically neutral and non-denominational.

Its main tasks include

• To sensitize society to the legitimate needs and interests of older people,
• to call on and encourage politicians to make greater use of the knowledge and experience of older people for the tasks and challenges of the present and the future,
• to convince politicians and society that politics for the elderly does not mean politics for, but with the older generation.
• to promote solidarity between the older and younger generations.
