If you are a master craftsman or craftswoman and would like to set up or take over a craft business, you can receive funding under certain conditions.

The master craftsman start-up bonus provides you with financial support if you set up or take over a business as a master craftsman. The aim of this bonus is to make it easier to become self-employed and to ensure that skilled crafts businesses are maintained.

The bonus is paid out in two stages:

In the first stage of "basic funding", you can receive up to 7,500 euros in funding. To qualify, you must be setting up a craft business for the first time, taking over a craft business or have an active shareholding in a craft business.

In the second stage of "job or training place funding", you can receive up to 2,500 euros in funding. To do so, you must create an additional job or training position in your company and occupy it for at least 12 months.

Basic funding:

• Fully completed application form
• Proof of having passed the master craftsman's examination or notification of equivalence assessment
• Business registration
• In the case of active participation, the articles of association as proof of the company shares and the appointment to management and, if applicable, an extract from the commercial register
• Expert opinion from the relevant Chamber of Skilled Crafts
• Self-declaration by the applicant regarding the first-time business start-up or company takeover or active participation
• Deminimis declaration
• Valid residence permit, if applicable

Job or training place promotion:

• Fully completed application form
• Training or employment contract
• Proof of social security contributions paid by means of two receipts for salary payments (first and twelfth month)
• De minimis declaration

• You have passed the German master craftsman's examination or have an equivalent foreign professional qualification.

Basic funding:

• You are setting up a skilled crafts business for the first time or you are taking over a skilled crafts business or you have an active participation with at least 30% of the subscribed capital and are appointed managing director of a company in the skilled crafts sector.

Promotion of jobs or training places:

• You create an additional job or training position in your company and fill this position for at least 12 months.

• You must apply for funding from Investitionsbank Schleswig-Holstein (IB.SH).
• Before submitting the application to IB.SH for basic funding, you must obtain the expert opinion of the relevant Chamber of Skilled Crafts and take advantage of advice on the planned business start-up procedure or on the company takeover or active participation.

Basic funding:

• You submit the required documents.
• The basic funding is paid out in one lump sum after the application has been reviewed and approved by IB.SH at the earliest at the time the project begins.

Job or training place funding:

• You submit the required documents.
• The application for workplace or training place funding can be submitted at the earliest three years after the start of the project.
• From this date, the application must be submitted to IB.SH within 6 months.
• The workplace or training place grant is paid out in a lump sum after the application has been reviewed and approved by IB.SH.

Before starting your job

Half of the master craftsman's start-up premium must be repaid if the self-employment is abandoned within one year of the start of the project or if the company is relocated from Schleswig-Holstein to another federal state. The applicant is obliged to inform IB.SH of this immediately.
