If you would like to fish in Schleswig-Holstein without a fishing license, you can apply for a vacation fishing license for a limited period of 28 days.

If you want to go fishing in Schleswig-Holstein, you must have a valid fishing license and carry it with you.
An exception is the temporary and examination-free fishing license, better known as a vacation fishing license. This allows you to fish for up to 28 days. You can extend the vacation fishing license once by applying again for a further 28 days.

Please note that the vacation fishing license is an exemption from the general fishing license requirement. This option was created by the legislator to facilitate short-term access and first contact with fishing, especially for tourists. The vacation fishing license does not replace the regular fishing license.

You must be at least 12 years old.

• The vacation fishing license is issued to you by the higher fishing authority or a local regulatory authority.
• You can apply for the vacation fishing license on site or online via the state's online service.
• The higher fisheries authority can also issue vacation fishing permits and their one-off renewal using an automated procedure. The document generated by the automated procedure must be printed out or carried as an electronic certificate when fishing.
• Together with the vacation fishing license, aninformation sheet is handed out or sent together with the vacation fishing license, the receipt and content of which must be confirmed by you as the holder of the vacation fishing license.

Please note that in coastal waters where special fishing rights exist (in the Eider, the Schlei and in parts of the Bay of Lübeck) and in all inland waters, in addition to this exemption permit, written permission from the person entitled to fish is required, which you must also obtain.
