If you would like to apply for a fishing license, you must first take and pass a fishing test.

If you wish to obtain a fishing license, you must have successfully passed the fishing license examination and be able to present a corresponding certificate to the fishing license authority. You can take the examination at various locations in the country at local or district groups of the fishing associations. Under certain conditions, you are exempt from the fishing license examination. You will receive a written certificate as proof that you have passed the fishing license test.

Identity card

In Schleswig-Holstein, you must be at least 12 years old to register for the fishing examination.

• You register for the fishing license test at a local or district association of a fishing association of your choice.
• Once you have successfully passed the fishing license test, you will receive a certificate confirming that you have passed.
• You can apply for a fishing license with the certificate that you have passed the examination.
• You should keep the certificate so that you can re-apply for a fishing license if you lose your fishing license or move house.

The fishing license test takes about one hour.

There is no deadline.

The fishing license examination taken in Schleswig-Holstein is currently not recognized in all federal states. It is necessary to enquire about recognition in your home federal state before taking the examination if you are not from Schleswig-Holstein.

You are exempt from the fishing examination under the following conditions:

1. anyone who has passed the examination as a fish farmer or fish manager or an equivalent examination or holds a fishing license in accordance with the Vessel Officer Training Ordinance or a corresponding certificate of competence based on recognized international agreements.

2. who has passed a fishing license examination in another federal state or

3. who has passed the examination for the higher or intermediate fisheries administration service or performs fisheries supervision duties at a fisheries authority.

If you fail the examination, you will receive a notification in which you will also be informed about the legal remedies.
