Migration counseling for adult immigrants and migration social counseling is a form of counseling for new immigrants and migrants who have been living here for some time.

Migrants who have moved to Germany in the last three years or who have received a residence permit in the last three years are considered "new immigrants".

Counseling includes

• Preparation of individual social and skills analyses,
• Preparation of support plans,
• integration support,
• placement in integration measures and socio-educational support during the course,
• Assistance in organizing childcare during course participation and
• Conclusion and monitoring of integration agreements (on a voluntary basis by agreement between client and counselor).

The counseling includes legal residence, social, educational and psychosocial issues. It serves to support integration. The advice centers work closely with the Jobcenter on issues of professional integration. Migration social counseling also includes crisis intervention in migration-specific crisis situations.

Trained specialists with different native languages are available for both areas of advice.

This depends on the respective consulting topic.

Counseling takes place by appointment. Depending on how busy the advice center is, it may not be possible to make an appointment at short notice.

In several cities in Schleswig-Holstein there are participation committees for migrants, sometimes under the names Round Table Migration, Round Table Integration or similar.

Forum for migrants in the state capital of Kiel.
With this forum, the state capital of Kiel offers the population with a migration background an opportunity to participate and formulate their integration policy needs. It represents the interests of migrants living in Kiel vis-à-vis the public, the council assembly, the political committees and the administration. According to the guidelines adopted by the Kiel City Council on March 19, 2010, the forum has specific rights and duties. Once a year, the Forum can report to the Council Assembly on its activities and plans and also has the right to issue statements on migration-specific concerns, concepts and measures. Integration concepts
Some municipalities and districts in Schleswig-Holstein already have concepts for the integration of the population with a migration background and others are in the process of developing them. They are drawn up with the participation of various social groups as well as representatives from the administration and politics of the municipalities and districts and serve as a basis and orientation framework for decisions and processes relating to the integration of the immigrant population.

The recommendations for action have been in place in Kiel since 2007. The annual integration report also includes the status of implementation of the recommendations for action. The Forum for Migrants of the City of Kiel critically monitors the implementation of the recommendations for action and submits a statement for the integration report.
