The pension insurance company may ask you for a life certificate.

Identity card or passport for identification purposes.
Further documents may be required. It is therefore recommended that you contact the relevant office in advance.

The issuing of life certificates for submission to the statutory pension insurance is free of charge.
The issuing of life certificates as proof for foreign pension insurance institutions or private insurance companies (e.g. company pensions) is subject to a fee. The fee depends on the action of the office selected to carry out the certification.

A registration certificate from the registration authority can only be issued without the corresponding additions that the customer is alive. The date of death remains blank on the issued registration certificate. This means that the person is still alive. This registration certificate can be attached to the pension provider's form and sealed and is considered a document.

You can fill in and sign the pension provider's form sent to you at the following offices:

• Notaries public
• State medical and veterinary associations
• Professional pension schemes
• Statutory health insurance funds
• Banks as institutions under public law or Deutsche Apotheker- und Ärztebank eG

Your signature will then be notarized by the local office.
