If you wish to focus on a non-essential activity of a craft requiring a license and have relevant journeyman training, you must be entered in the register of your local Chamber of Crafts.

If you are self-employed in a non-essential activity of a craft requiring a license, which quantitatively accounts for the majority of your commercial activity and is carried out in the form of a craft business, and have a journeyman's examination in a craft requiring a license, the training content of which has prepared you for the activity carried out, you are a compulsory member of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts.

When you commence your commercial activity, you must apply for entry in the list of persons pursuant to Section 90 (3) and (4) HwO. The Chamber of Skilled Crafts in whose district your commercial establishment is located is responsible.

• Copy of identity card or comparable identification document
• Copy of the business registration (can be submitted after registration)

• Self-employed exercise of a non-essential activity of a craft requiring a license
• This activity accounts for the majority of the commercial activity in quantitative terms and is carried out in the form of a craft business
• The applicant has completed a journeyman's apprenticeship in a craft requiring a license, the training content of which has prepared them for the activity carried out. Certain preparatory training measures that essentially correspond to completed journeyman's training are deemed equivalent

  • the activity is carried out in a form of business corresponding to the craft
• No proof of qualification is required for registration
• Deadline: Immediately upon commencement of the commercial activity
• Application in writing or online with authentication
• Application form to download from the website of the relevant Chamber of Skilled Crafts or online application via administrative portals
• The registration fees can be found in the fee schedule of the respective Chamber of Skilled Crafts, which can be viewed on the Chamber's website
