Are you affected by a disability and have had a health impairment for more than 6 months? If so, you can apply to have your disability assessed under certain conditions.

As a result of the examination, you may be given a degree of disability. If the examination of the required documents results in a degree of disability of 50 or more, you can be issued with a severely disabled person's pass.

In the course of the examination, special health restrictions may be determined in addition to the degree of disability. The corresponding characteristics will be entered in the severely disabled person's pass.

The following characteristics can be recognized by the competent authority and entitle you to further compensation for disadvantages:

• G - significant impairment of mobility in road traffic
• aG - exceptional walking disability
• H - helplessness
• B - authorization for a permanent escort when using public transport
• RF - Reduced radio license fee and/or reduced telephone connection fee
• GL - deafness
• BL - Blindness
• TBL - deaf-blindness

  • other proof of assessment of the degree of disability from other pension authorities, reduction in earning capacity or degree of the consequences of injury (e.g. pension decision or corresponding administrative or court decision)
  • Relevant medical documents, for example expert reports, rehabilitation reports, medical findings
• In the case of representation: Power of attorney from the person providing care
• for applicants without citizenship of an EU member state: proof of legal residence

• Your health has been impaired for more than 6 months to such an extent that it makes it difficult or impossible for you to participate in social life.
• Your health impairments are documented by medical records.

There are no costs.

You can apply for a determination of disability in writing or using our online application:

• Submit the application to the responsible office.
• Once the application has been submitted, the documents you have submitted will be checked.
• If necessary, the competent office will request further documents independently in order to clarify the medical facts.
• After your documents have been checked, you will receive a decision from the competent authority, which will determine your degree of disability and any disability markings.

Processing time: 4 months

Although an informal application is possible, you will subsequently be required to complete a declaration of consent to release us from our duty of confidentiality.
