If you want to lay new lines, for example for electricity, gas or telecommunications, or repair lines and dig up public roads, paths or squares to do so, the local authority responsible must give its consent.
Excavations in public areas are necessary, for example, for
- Repair work on existing lines,
- Conversion or relocation of existing lines,
- the construction of new facilities,
- the creation of new connections.
- Site plans and images showing the type and scope of the planned excavation
- If applicable, the route approval
- Construction schedule

- If applicable, user authorizations
- The administrative costs for processing applications for excavation permits are regulated in the concession contracts, wastewater disposal contracts and road use contracts.
- Administrative costs may be incurred for processing applications in accordance with the local cost statutes.

If the municipal administration offers an online service, you can use it. Follow the blue link "Online service". To apply online, you or your organization need an Amt24 service account. You can set up a service account in the login dialog under "Register free of charge".
Have electronic copies of the required documents ready.
Once you have submitted the application, you will receive confirmation that your application data has been transmitted and a copy of the application in your service account mailbox.
Written application
Alternatively, you can also apply for approval in writing. Submit copies of all required documents with your application.
Once your application has been processed and a positive decision has been made, the road construction authority will send you the excavation permit.
The excavation permit must be kept at the construction site so that it can be presented on request.
Note: If the date of the construction project is postponed, you must notify the road construction authority in writing.

- The excavation must be carried out within the approved time limit; the permit expires if excavation is not started within the time limit.
