If you wish to transport other radioactive materials on public transport routes, you require a licence under radiation protection law from the competent authority.
In the following cases, you do not require a licence under radiation protection law for transport:
- if the radioactivity of the substances is sufficiently low that you can handle them without a licence under radiation protection law,
- if these substances are completely exempt from the application of the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods with regard to their radioactivity, or
- if these substances can be transported as excepted packages in accordance with the regulations for the transport of dangerous goods.
Note: If you wish to transport large sources or nuclear fuels, the "BASE" is the competent authority. Major sources are other radioactive substances with an activity of more than 1,000 terabecquerels.
Note: The regulations of the dangerous goods law must also be taken into account.
- Certificate of good conduct for the applicant (document type O, must be applied for)
- Documents describing the planned transport and proving that the protective regulations of the Radiation Protection Act and the Radiation Protection Ordinance will be complied with
- Letter of appointment and proof of expertise of the radiation protection officer
- Letter of appointment and proof of training of the dangerous goods officers
- List of vehicle drivers and proof of the required training (e.g. ADR certificate)
- Radiation protection instructions

- The necessary precautions must be taken to fulfil statutory compensation obligations.
- The necessary protection against interference or other effects of third parties must be guaranteed
- The transport of other radioactive substances with an activity of more than 1010times the exemption limit according to Annex 4 Table 1 Column 2 StrlSchV requires an accident prevention plan
- The choice of the type, time and route of transport must not conflict with the protection of the public from the harmful effects of ionising radiation.
- You can apply for the transport of other radioactive substances by submitting an informal written application to the competent authority.
- Please enclose the information listed under "Required documents" with the application.
