As a European lawyer, you can apply for membership of the competent bar association for the place of establishment in Germany. As a member of the Bar Rechtsanwaltskammer, you are entitled to practise as a lawyer in Germany under the professional title of your country of origin in accordance with the Federal Lawyers' Act (Bundesrechtsanwaltsordnung).
As a rule, you must prove every three years that you are still admitted to the bar in your country of origin. Otherwise, your recognition as a European lawyer in Germany will be withdrawn.
If other reasons arise why you are no longer allowed to practise as a lawyer, you are obliged to inform the competent Bar Association of these reasons.

- Doctoral degree certificate or other proof of the acquisition of academic degrees (certified copy)
- Certificate of professional affiliation from the competent authority in the country of origin (not older than 3 months)

- if applicable: confirmation of office

You apply for admission as a European lawyer in writing to the Rechtsanwaltskammer. You can obtain the required application form from Amt24 (-> Forms and other offers) or directly from the competent office.
- Complete the application form and compile the required documents.
- Submit the signed application documents to the competent office.
- The competent body will examine your application and decide on your chamber membership.
- The decision and the admission certificate will be sent to you by post.
Use of the professional title
After admission as a European lawyer, you use the professional title which you are entitled to use in your home country under the law applicable there. If this title is Rechtsanwalt or Rechtsanwältin, you must also indicate the professional organisation to which you belong in your home country.
The designation "European lawyer" is inadmissible
