Anyone wishing to work as a attorney at the Federal Supreme Court (BGH) requires separate admission. The application is made through the Bar Association at the Federal Supreme Court in Karlsruhe.
Elections to the bar at the Federal Supreme Court are held on the basis of lists of nominees. These may be submitted by
- the Federal Bar on the basis of nominations made by the Bars and the
- Bar Association at the Federal Supreme Court (RAK BGH).
The election committee consists of the President of the Federal Supreme Court, the presidents of the civil senates and the members of the presidiums of the Federal Bar Association and the Bar Association at the Federal Supreme Court.
The attorneys admitted to the Federal Supreme Court are compulsory members of the Bar Association at the Federal Supreme Court and are admitted only there.

Only persons who have reached the age of 35 years and are
- who has reached the age of 35 and
- has practised the profession of Attorneyfor at least five years without interruption, and
- is nominated by the Election Committee for Rechtsanwälte at the Federal Supreme Court.

Election and admission as a Rechtsanwalt at the BGH
- The election is carried out by the election committee on the basis of lists of nominees.
- The chairman of the election committee informs the Bundesministerium für Justiz und Verbraucherschutz of the result of the election.
- The Ministry shall decide among the elected candidates on the application for admission as a attorney at the Federal Supreme Court.

The Rechtsanwälte who are admitted to the BGH form the Rechtsanwaltskammer beim Bundesgerichtshof. This is a public corporation and is subject to legal supervision by the Bundesministerium für Justiz und Verbraucherschutz.
