Strahlenpass, Registrierung beantragen

If you are working in radiation protection areas of external plants or facilities for professional reasons, you will need a valid radiation pass. You can carry out cleaning, manual or assembly work in the external plant or facility, but also highly specialised activities, for example in nuclear power plants during inspections.

The radiation pass is a personal document of the person for whom it is issued. It is not transferable. The person's occupational exposure is recorded in the radiation pass.

A radiation pass is registered for a period of six years. At the end of the six years, the period of validity can be extended by the responsible department by a maximum of five years if there is still room for entries in the passport. You can also apply for this extension here.

Note: Foreign radiation passes modelled on the European radiation pass are also valid in Germany. Additional registration in Germany is not required.

Other Responsibilities

If you will be using the radiation pass exclusively in connection with the operation of third-party X-ray equipment or interfering sources that is subject to notification (Section 26 of the Strahlenschutzgesetz), please contact the Landesdirektion Sachsen (see -> Detailed information).

You must provide a radiation pass and complete the following:

• Section 1: complete, including the signature of the holder of the radiation passport
• Section 4 in the first free block: your company data incl. company number, the start of employment of the holder of the radiation passport and the category and signature of the person responsible or authorised representative
• Sections 6.1 and 6.2: complete, including the signatures of the person responsible or authorised representative and the holder of the radiation pass
• Section 6.3 in the first grey block: sum of the effective dose (carry-over from 6.1)

If you apply for a follow-up pass, you must also submit the previous radiation pass. This will be cancelled.

• Personal identification number (Strahlenschutzregisternummer) of the radiation pass holder - to be obtained from the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz, BfS)
• Registered office of the employer or place of residence of the radiation pass holder in the Free State of Saxony

• Registration: EUR 30.00 to EUR 100.00
• Extension: EUR 90,00

Application

Submit your informal application and the original completed radiation pass by post to the department responsible.

Examination and issue

• The responsible department will check the application received.
• If all the requirements for registration are met, the authority will register the radiation pass.
• The registered radiation pass will be returned to you by post.
• You will receive an invoice as a message to your service account mailbox, or by post if you apply in writing.

Amendment, extension, replacement

You can apply for changes and extensions in writing to the responsible department in the same way. Renewals are only possible for a maximum of five years.

If you lose your passport, please inform the responsible department immediately.

Tip: You can also register several radiation passes for different people at once.

Continued Use of older Radiation Passes

You can continue to use a valid radiation pass that was issued before 31 December 2018 if you have registered your personal identification number (SSR number) by 30 June 2019 at the latest. You must register a new radiation pass as a "Folgepass" when the validity period specified in the radiation pass expires, but by 31 December 2024 at the latest.
