The acquisition of the necessary expertise in radiation protection is tested and certified by the competent body.

The duration, type and scope of the practical experience to be acquired depend on the training and the respective field of application. The practical experience may only be acquired at an institution that is able to impart the required practical skills due to its technical and personnel resources.
- The required expertise in radiation protection can only be acquired after successfully completing vocational training.
- A scientific/technical qualification is required for some specialist groups.
- Expertise is acquired through minimum periods of professional experience. It can then only be acquired if the relevant activities are carried out under the supervision of persons who have the necessary expertise in radiation protection.
- Recognisable periods for the acquisition of expertise can only be acquired after successful completion of training (vocational training, studies, technician, master craftsman, etc.).
- The acquisition of expertise must be verified by means of a written certificate stating the area and scope of the practical experience acquired by the person being assessed.
