If you wish to operate a national insemination centre, embryo collection or production unit for cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or equidae, you require a licence from the competent authority in accordance with the Animal Breeding Act (Tierzuchtgesetz – TierZG).
Authorisation as an insemination station or embryo transfer centre in accordance with Section 18 of the Animal Breeding Act (TierZG)
If you wish to operate a national insemination centre, embryo collection or production unit for cattle, pigs, sheep, goats or equidae, you require a licence from the competent authority in accordance with the Animal Breeding Act (Tierzuchtgesetz – TierZG).
Note: The licence is limited to Germany.

- the name, address and legal form of the operator
- the addresses of all parts of the establishment and an indication of their function for the collection, treatment, storage and delivery of semen or ova and embryos
- the indication of the material field of activity (animal species and material: semen, embryos, ova)
- Proof: contracts with the supervising veterinarian including licence to practise, hygiene concepts, site plans, contracts for the use of space
- Management of the facility by a veterinarian or performance of veterinary and technical tasks by a contractually bound veterinarian
- the necessary personnel and all facilities required for the collection, treatment, storage and delivery of semen or ova and embryos
- Compliance with animal health requirements for maintaining the health of livestock and carrying out animal health examinations of male breeding animals at an insemination centre
- For authorisation as an insemination centre or embryo transfer facility, you must submit an (informal) written application to the rsponsilbe department.
- In addition to checking the documents submitted, an on-site inspection will also take place.
- If all requirements are met, the responsible department will send you the licence and invoice.
- You can also apply for changes and extensions in writing to the responsible department.
- Anyone operating a semen collection centre must immediately keep records of the collection, treatment, storage and release of semen in accordance with a statutory order pursuant to Section 18 paragraph 1 no. 4
- Operators of an embryo collection team or other semen collection centre, a semen storage centre or other embryo collection team must immediately keep records of the delivery of the respective products
