Authorisation to guard the lives or property of third parties on a commercial basis in accordance with Section 34a of the Trade Regulation Act (Gewerbeordnung/GewO)

If you would like to work as a security guard, you must first attend a training course for the security industry. The training takes place at the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammer/IHK).

Among other things, you will be taught the legal rights and obligations of a security guard as well as techniques for dealing with conflict situations. After receiving the certificate, you will be authorised to take on security tasks as an employee.

• The duration of the course is at least 40 hours (in attendance, without absences)

Please note: To open a security company or to work in certain areas (refugee accommodation, discos or other public places), you must take the more extensive security guard proficiency test.

Note: Trained specialists who, for example, have a qualification as a specialist for protection and security are exempt from the obligation to provide proof of training for the security industry.

• german language level of at least B1 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages

Procedural fee: Calculation according to the IHK fee schedule

The security training is carried out and certified by the IHK.

• Register with your local IHK for training
• The training is organised by the IHK, takes place orally and lasts approx. 40 hours
• After complete participation without absences, you will receive a certificate of participation in the training.
• The certificate is also transferred to the security guard register.

After receiving the certificate, you will be authorised to take on guarding duties as an employee.

After successful participation, the certificate is issued either immediately or within a few days.

The certificate is valid indefinitely and nationwide.
