Confirmation of pre-qualification to apply for Aufstiegs-BAföG according to §9 of the Upgrading Training Assistance Act - AFBG

Further education qualifications such as master, business administrator, master-professional can be financially supported by Aufstiegs-BAföG. In order to be eligible for this funding, proof of an appropriate pre-qualification must first be provided by the department responsible for the examination.

One document that serves as proof is the "Form Z". On this form, you must have the competent department confirm that you meet the professional admission requirements for the examination or can meet them by the time of the examination.

• The competent department for IHK occupations is the Chamber of Industry and Commerce (Industrie- und Handelskammer/IHK)
• You usually qualify either by having completed your first professional training and/or through initial work experience.
• Even if you have dropped out of university, have professional experience or have a Bachelor's degree, you can prove that you have the required prior qualification. The exact requirements are set out in the examination regulations for the respective continuing education qualification.

Note: After confirming this pre-qualification, you can apply for the so-called "Meister-BAföG". Depending on the federal state, BAföG offices or other authorities are responsible for this.

Prerequisites for admission to a further training examination:

• Training in a recognised training occupation, a comparable vocational qualification or a Bachelor's degree
• Drop-outs and high school graduates with work experience can also be admitted

Prerequisite for upgrading BAföG:

• examined prior qualification

• Apply for confirmation of pre-qualification at the office responsible for your degree.
• Submit the Form Z and the proofs of pre-qualification to the competent office.
• After the pre-qualification has been checked, you will receive the completed Annex Z by post.

With the completed Annex Z, you can apply for the upgrading BAföG.
