In order to facilitate travel, lorries with a permissible total weight of more than 7.5t and trailers behind lorries are prohibited from driving on Saturdays between 7.00 a.m. and 8.00 p.m. between 1 July and 31 August inclusive.

However, if you need to use the road with your lorry during this period for valid reasons, you will need a special permit for this.

You must prove the urgency of your transport. To do so, attach the following documents to your application:

• freight and accompanying documents
• certificate from the competent goods clearance office of Deutsche Bahn confirming the impossibility of rail transport in due time
• for cross-border traffic, proof of clearance times at the border customs office for loads on lorries
• motor vehicle and trailer licence (or certified copy). For foreign motor vehicles in whose registration documents the permissible total weight and engine power are not entered, a corresponding official certificate is required.

Transport is not possible by other means of transport or outside the prohibition period.

Depending on the type and scope of the exception: EUR 10.20 to EUR 179.00.

You apply for the permit using the form provided, which you submit to the competent office by post or fax. You can also submit the application informally.

The authority will then decide on your application and send you the exemption (including conditions and requirements) in writing.

It takes some time to process the application. So apply for the permit in good time, as you will need to carry it with you when you travel.
